“Donald Trump Files $15 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against The New York Times”
The U.S. President Donald Trump has initiated a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times, alleging a prolonged pattern of malicious reporting. The lawsuit, filed on September 15, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for Florida’s Middle District, accuses the newspaper of intentional defamation through articles and a book published between September and October 2024.
Trump’s legal team claims that the Times deviated from standard journalistic practices, publishing articles in an “antagonistic and negative way” without providing adequate time for response. The complaint further asserts that the newspaper’s actions were driven by “actual malice” and a “deranged” hatred towards the former president.
In addition to The New York Times, the lawsuit names four of its reporters and publisher Penguin Random House as defendants. The complaint seeks compensatory damages of no less than $15 billion, along with punitive damages to be determined at trial.
This legal action is part of a broader pattern of lawsuits filed by Trump against media outlets. Earlier this year, he sued media magnate Rupert Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal for at least $10 billion over reports related to a book and a letter allegedly sent to Jeffrey Epstein. Additionally, Paramount settled a lawsuit with Trump over election coverage on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” for $16 million.
The New York Times has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit.
