In a heartbreaking turn of events, Ruth Otabor—sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 champion Phyna—has passed away following injuries sustained in a tragic road accident involving a Dangote Group truck.

What Happened

Ruth, a fresh graduate of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, was involved in a serious accident on August 13, 2025, when a Dangote truck reportedly struck her near her school. The impact crushed her leg, leading to its amputation. She had been undergoing medical treatment and fighting for her life ever since.

Confirmation of Her Passing

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Ruth tragically succumbed to her injuries. The devastating news was officially confirmed via a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family.

The family, mourning deeply, has respectfully asked for privacy during this difficult time. They also shared that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Dangote Group’s Response

In the wake of the tragedy, the Dangote Group expressed profound sorrow over Ruth’s passing. Their statement revealed that since the accident, the company and its insurance partners had been covering her medical expenses and offering full support to the family. Arrangements had even been made for Ruth to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to recover, she passed away.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion in its operations, adding, “May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”
