Fire Ravages Shopping Complex in Oyo, Goods Worth Millions Lost

A devastating fire broke out late Friday night at the Saki Garage shopping complex in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State, destroying merchandise worth millions of naira. Four of the complex’s eleven shops were heavily damaged.

The blaze was first noticed by Mr. Lateef from the Amotekun Bodija Division, who alerted authorities after seeing flames engulfing some of the shops. Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Mrs. Adedeji, quickly responded. They arrived to find four shops already ablaze.

Thanks to their prompt action, the fire was contained before spreading to the remaining shops and nearby buildings. Although the blaze destroyed valuable goods and property, no casualties were reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire likely started from smoldering embers left unattended after business hours, which then ignited nearby flammable materials.

The Fire Services Agency commended the fast response of its team and urged the public to take fire safety seriously. They recommended that every home and business should have fire extinguishers installed, and that everyone should save the emergency fire service number in case of emergencies.
