Dj`s And Women Gets Party Bans As Hisbah Issues Strict Guidelines on Social Gatherings in Bauchi State
The Hisbah Command of Bauchi State has rolled out a new set of regulations governing social events, including marriage ceremonies, birthdays, and other festivals. The Islamic law enforcement body cited rising concerns over social vices and public disturbances as reasons for the new measures.
New Social Guidelines in Bauchi
In a statement dated July 16, 2025, and signed by Barrister Aminu Balarabe Isah, Permanent Commissioner of the Bauchi Hisbah Command, the commission listed several restrictions intended to promote morality and public order.
Among the key guidelines are:
- No mixing of the opposite sexes at events.
- Dancing with the opposite sex, even in the presence of children, is prohibited.
- DJs, Gala nights, Aloba shows, and certain cultural events like Sharo or Shadi and Garaya are banned.
- Only women may attend events organized by women, and vice versa.
- Seating arrangements must be gender-specific.
- No gambling, alcohol, weapons, or immoral acts in any form.
- Activities must pause during prayer times, and attendees must observe traditional dress codes.
- Abusive language, blasphemy, and inciting behavior are not permitted.
- Exhibition of pornographic material and “immoral birthday celebrations” are banned.
The guidelines apply to all recreational centers, hotels, clubs, and cultural organizations operating within the state.
Hisbah Confirms Directive
When contacted by phone, Muhammad Muhammad Bununu, the Commander of Hisbah in Bauchi, confirmed the authenticity of the directive, stating, “Yes, it is from us. We issued it.”
According to the statement, failure to comply with these rules will result in appropriate disciplinary actions from Hisbah Command.
Public Reactions and Legal Considerations
While Hisbah insists the measures are necessary to maintain peace and moral order, the announcement is already generating discussion across social and legal circles regarding the intersection of religious enforcement and personal freedoms, especially in a pluralistic society.
It remains to be seen how the new regulations will be enforced and whether any exemptions or clarifications will be made in the days to come.
