Dangote Denies Ownership Of Truck in Devastating Enugu Accident

A tragic road accident in Enugu State initially linked to a Dangote-branded truck has prompted the company’s swift response to clear the air. Here’s the breakdown:

What Happened

On September 3, two fatal crashes occurred along the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway near Ozalla 4-Corner. In one incident, a cement-loaded Howo truck, labeled with the Dangote logo, collided with a Toyota Corolla, a mini bus, and a Foton bus. The blaze claimed six lives five from the Corolla and one from the mini bus and left others injured. Later, a Sino truck also struck a tricycle, resulting in four more deaths.

Dangote’s Response

Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) issued a statement denying ownership of the truck involved. According to the company’s findings and confirmed by the police the vehicle belonged to Visco Investment Global Limited, not to its fleet.

The company also highlighted that the use of its logo on an unauthorized truck is deeply concerning. Dangote pledged to:

  • Work closely with authorities to investigate how its branding ended up on the vehicle.
  • Toughen oversight to prevent misuse of its logo.
  • Push back against “misinformation” linking the Group to the tragedy without proof.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and protect the integrity of its brand.

Why This Matters

  • Truth vs. Speculation: In today’s fast-moving news environment, misinformation can spread rapidly especially on social media. Dangote’s prompt clarification helps set the record straight.
  • Brand Integrity: The misuse of a major corporate logo in such incidents can harm reputation and incite false blame. Dangote is taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
  • Investigation Assurance: By urging investigators to be left to do their jobs, the company emphasizes the importance of a transparent and thorough inquiry.
