Anthony Joshua’s Promoter Eyes Nigeria for 2026 Homecoming Fight

Boxing fans in Nigeria may soon witness a historic moment, as heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is being lined up for his first professional fight in his country of birth.

Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, head of Balmoral Group and a leading sports promoter, confirmed that talks are underway to bring Joshua to Nigeria for a 2026 homecoming bout. He said Abuja’s Moshood Abiola National Stadium is among the likely venues under consideration.

According to Adamu, Joshua has repeatedly voiced his wish to perform in front of a Nigerian crowd before ending his career. The promoter explained that discussions with Joshua’s management have been positive, with both sides eager to make the event a reality.

While no opponent has been officially named, several fighters are already being mentioned as possibilities. Among them are French Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka, Congolese powerhouse Martin Bakole, and former world champion Deontay Wilder.

Adamu dismissed speculation that Ghana could host the fight, stressing that Nigeria has both the market size and fan support to stage a world-class boxing event. He added that Nigeria’s recent track record of hosting large-scale sports and entertainment shows demonstrates its readiness to welcome an international fight night.

If finalized, the bout would be a milestone for Nigerian boxing and a career-defining return for Joshua, giving millions of fans the chance to see their hero compete live on home ground
