Hilda Baci Successfully Cooks Giant Jollof Pot

On a lively Saturday morning at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, celebrity chef Hilda Effiong Bassey (better known as Hilda Baci) triumphantly concluded her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice, drawing an excited crowd of more than 20,000 food lovers, celebrities, and influencers.

Before even beginning to cook, Hilda took hands-on steps to ensure quality: she personally washed the towering red pot and emphasized attention to detail in using precise measurements to preserve the authentic jollof flavor.

As the cooking continued overnight into early Saturday, the atmosphere buzzed with song, dance, and anticipation. Among those cheering her on were fashion designer Veekee James, content creators Tomike Adeoye and Enioluwa Adeoluwa, and actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele. Musician Spyro also took the stage, bringing his hits to energize the gathering.

Before igniting the burners, Hilda shared a moment of prayer with Lead Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Centre, asking for strength and success.

Hilda Baci’s journey to breaking records has already captured international attention. In 2023, she set the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, lasting 93 hours and 11 minutes in Lagos. She is now awaiting official verification from Guinness World Records for this latest feat: creating the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
