Apapa Customs Hits ₦20.16bn Daily Revenue, Breaks Previous Record
The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved a new milestone in revenue collection, setting a record single-day haul of ₦20,156,077,098.56 on September 9, 2025.
This new achievement surpasses the ₦18.9 billion previously recorded on March 14, 2025, marking a significant leap in the command’s financial performance.
Why the Surge?
According to Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, who recently assumed office as the Area Controller, the surge is linked to:
- Stricter enforcement against smuggling and under-declaration.
- Enhanced compliance by importers and clearing agents.
- Collaboration among port stakeholders, including terminal operators and security agencies.
- Operational reforms designed to reduce bottlenecks and speed up cargo clearance.
Oshoba stressed that the record underscores the command’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic stability, adding that Apapa Customs is determined to sustain the momentum.
Economic Impact
Apapa Port remains Nigeria’s busiest seaport, handling a majority of the country’s imports. The record collection demonstrates not only improved efficiency but also the potential to boost the federal government’s revenue drive at a time when diversification of income sources is critical.
Industry stakeholders believe that if such results are sustained, Nigeria’s customs service could play an even greater role in funding infrastructure, security, and social programs.
