Bandit Ambush in Zamfara: 5 Soldiers and 10 Civilians Killed

In a tragic escalation of violence, bandits ambushed a convoy traveling from Lilo to Gusau, killing five soldiers and ten community members. The military was escorting traders to market when the attack struck.

Leaders from the Lilo area told reporters at the NUJ press center in Gusau that the incident occurred Monday along the Lilo–Gulubba road, a route frequently used by traders. The bandits lay in wait, then opened fire on the convoy.

One survivor explained that people scattered into bushes or pretended to be dead. The soldiers retaliated, and reportedly “many bandits were killed,” but the loss of life was still steep. Villagers suffered casualties and serious injuries.

Aftermath & Community Pleas

The assault has deepened fears in Lilo and surrounding villages. Local leaders are calling on government authorities to respond with improved infrastructure better roads, healthcare, and schooling and increased security.

Meanwhile, an Army spokesperson, Captain David Adewusi, says he is not yet aware of the specifics but promised to follow up on the report.
