Oyo State ₦113 Billion Road Projects to Boost Connectivity and Urban Renewal

In a strategic move to enhance urban mobility and stimulate economic growth, Oyo State’s Executive Council has approved over ₦113 billion in road construction and rehabilitation projects, funded by the recently endorsed ₦300 billion state loan.

Major Upgrades Across Ibadan and Beyond

At the weekly council meeting held in Agodi, Commissioner for Works and Public Transport, Arc. Mojeed Mogbonjubola, revealed that the funds will be deployed across a mix of new infrastructure and ongoing schemes:

  • ₦63.6 billion for rebuilding the 13.6 km stretch connecting Ojoo Interchange through IITA to Moniya Junction, with a spur to the New Oyo Expressway.
  • ₦444 million earmarked for road markings, kerb painting, and targeted patching on state roads in Ibadan—directly managed by the Ministry.
  • ₦17.2 billion for dualizing the 6.2 km corridor from Ajia Junction (Ibadan–Ife Interchange) to the Nigeria Air Force Base Road.
  • ₦26.5 billion for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 30 km Okaka Junction–Otu Igbojaye–KAP Village Road, including bridges over the Otu and Ofiki rivers.
  • Expansion of the Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road, adding a rigid-pavement segment at the Akufo Farm Settlement Road (2.2 km), costing ₦1.94 billion.
  • Minor road upgrades in Eruwa: Asphalt laying for the 0.75 km Isaba–Ogundoyin Road, and 1.9 km linking Lanlate Garage Junction to Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic junction—budgeted at ₦4.15 billion.
  • An environmental touch: tree planting along 32 km of the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road (Phase 1)—₦108 million for saplings.

The Commissioner assured that most of these projects will wrap up within 12 to 18 months, aiming to improve urban mobility and drive socio-economic activity.

  • Strategic Infrastructure Use: By directing loan funds into high-impact roads and planting schemes, Oyo State is targeting both transportation efficiency and urban aesthetics.
  • Economic and Environmental Dual Benefits: The inclusion of greenery along roads not only beautifies, but aids in environmental health and quality of life.
  • Active Implementation: Commitment to direct labor for marking and immediate patching shows operational readiness and responsiveness to urban needs.
