In a high-stakes confrontation in Ibadan’s Imalefalafia neighborhood, police officers engaged two armed men in a tense gun battle that left one criminal dead and the other critically wounded. The showdown occurred close to the iconic Tribune House, sending ripples through Ibadan South-West LGA.

What started as a routine location stakeout quickly escalated. The suspects suspected perpetrators known for robbing bank customers encountered a Muslim cleric (referred to as “Alfa”) and tragically shot him, mistaking his motorcycle parts for cash. After injuring the cleric, the robbers fled toward Imalefalafia, prompting local residents to alert the police.

Residents witnessed the abandoned motorcycle parts and sprang into action, supporting the police operation. Officers set up an ambush near Tribune House. Upon spotting the police, one robber pulled out a pistol and fired wounding an officer only for police and vigilant bystanders to return fire. One suspect fell fatally wounded, while the second was captured alive.

Upon inspection, the fallen gang leader was discovered wearing charms and carrying a backpack loaded with ammunition, cash, and other items.
